Tango Gameworks' next game is Hi-Fi Rush, a rhythm adventure game under development exclusively for the Xbox Series X|S, and it's coming out tonight.
Announced during the Xbox Developer_Direct showcase, the trailer revealed a bombastic comic-like artstyle, original tunes and rhythm-based movement and combat. Tango Gameworks is releasing the game, including a Game Pass release, today – with it planned to hit digital storefronts a few hours after the showcase ends.
Hi-Fi Rush's rhythm-based gameplay impacts every aspect of its world. Playing as wannabe rockstar Chai, you're the victim of a weird corporate experiment that's left you able to sense the rhythm of the world to the beat of the game's soundtrack. So everything: your attacks, enemy attacks, obstacles, cutscenes, everything occurs to the beat of the music.
But Tango reassures this is not a punishing rhythm game. You can jump, dodge, parry, and attack using any buttons and they will automatically sync up to the beat of the music – but if you manage to keep rhythm correctly, you'll do more damage or build up powerful combos. Chai's companion 808, a little robot cat, follows along and offers a light visual aid to help players keep rhythm, and more accessibility options are available too.
While Hi-Fi Rush has its own original soundtrack, it also has licensed music for boss battles from artists like Nine Inch Nails, The Black Keys, The Prodigy, The Joy Formidable, Number Girl, Wolfgang Gartner, and Zwan.

A Japanese studio best-known for The Evil Within, Tango Gameworks was part of Xbox's 2021 acquisition of Zenimax. Its most recent release is Ghostwire: Tokyo, which we praised for the way it brought Japanese culture and mythology to life.
